Mary Thomas maiden name Holman

Mary Thomas was the second  wife of George Heath Vlieland.
Mary Vlieland nee Thomas nee Holman:
fortunately Mary is with her daughter Mary Julia (her executor) and her grandson (who is with her when she dies) in later censuses (variously shown as Wheland and Flieland) and the baptism for her daughter gives us the address they were at and allows us to confirm her siblings by her first marriage - whose baptism shows the same address and allows us to trace them in the earlier censuses.



 One of them, the first born son is given his fathers first name and Mary's maiden name as his second name and so we can trace Mary's first marriage:
1834? birth of first child Ellen

14/08/1835 address Camberwell at baptism of son Edward Holman at St Giles Camberwell

20/08/1837 address:Park Place at baptism of son Walter at St Giles Camberwell

19/01/1838 address:Park Place Peckham at baptism of daughter Emma at St Giles Camberwell

17 Nov 1838 Parish Register entry for marriage of Mary Holman to Edward Thomas both of Full Age at Finsbury St Luke Islington (married by licence) Father Name: John Holman Spouse Father Name: Ralph Thomas witnesses: John Parker and E Chambers - both signed their name

NOTE: since the couple already had four children, it is not surprising that they were neither married in the church where their children were baptised nor by banns)

Note: Emily Hannah Thomas was godmother to Husband's brother William Heath Vlieland's second daughter in 1854 - possibly Mary's sister in law?

1861 census: Cheriton Terrace with spouse (2nd husband) and 2 daughters from first marriage age 40

1871 census: Wellington Villas, Hammersmith shown as Mary G H Flieland annuitant married age 56 with son in law Albert E Tomlinson 33 book-keeper at wool brokers born Leeds daughter Mary Julia (nee Thomas) age 25 born London (Marriages Jun 1864 Islington 1b 362) 2 grandchildren and servant

1881 census: 346, Gold Hawk Rd, Hammersmith Bank Annuiant age 68 with son in law Albert Edwin Tomlinson 42 clerk book-keeper wool broker born Leeds daughter Mary Julia (nee Thomas) age 34 born Marylebone, 3 grandchildren (2 sons b Islington and younger daughter b Hammersmith) and servant

died 12 Oct 1888 at 346 Goldhawk road Shepherds Bush aged 73. died of heart disease and dropsy 'ANE' Tomlinson grandson was present at death

Court of Probate record for 1888 shows entry for Mary Vlieland affidavit 10867 executor Mary Julia Tomlinson - court of Probate (daughter) "formerly of 233 but late of 346 Goldhawk Road ...widow" estate: £97 11s 10d

Mary  was born in 1815
George Heath  marries again as widower,Customs,Islington Middlesex 15th July 1852 parish of West Hackney Middlesex to Mary Thomas Widow of West Hackney.


She died Oct 1888 Goldhawk road Sheperds Bush aged 73.
