Florence Adèle Vlieland

Florence Adèle Vlieland was the daughter of William Heath Vlieland and Emily Hannah Priaulx.



She was born in 1866 at Hygeia House,
She married Douglas Hamilton Anderson.





As we can read in this announcement in the British Medical Journal of 17 june 1893.
ANDERSON-VLIELAND.-On June 6th, at Christ Church, Brondesbury,N.W., by the Rev. Arthur Rawlins, vicar of St. Andrews, Willesden,
Douglas Hamilton Anderson, M.B., C.M.. St. MIargaret's, Twickenham,to Florence Adele, youngest daughter of the late W. HI. Vlieland, Esq.,of Cheltenham.
At her wedding she received the prayerbook with the birthdate of Jerome Nicholas Vlieland.

Her father and mother had an issue in 1893 and Florence Adele Vlieland received the book when she married from her cousins house Frances Elisabeth Chesterman ( Charles James Vlielands eldest sister)
She and her husband had three children
Florence with her daughters Beryl and Doris.
John Douglas Anderson born 4 Aug 1894 died 4 Aug 1894.

Doris Adele Anderson Born 7 Sept 1897.
Beryl Audrey Anderson born 27 April 1899



Beryl Audrey BURT (Anderson) date of death 2nd Jan 1993 died in Greenwich Hospital
She is the daughter who inherited the prayerbook.
The silver teaspoons mentioned in the newspaper are still in the possession of the family .
John Hamilton Burt was the son of Beryl and Frederick Owen Burt (Births Dec 1896 Burt Frederick Owen Thanet 2a 975) and married Sylvia Doris Price
Marriages Mar 1924 Burt Frederick Owen = Anderson Beryl A Peterbro' 3b 307.
They have a son Clifford J. who provided us with copies of
And finally Florence Adèle's funeral letter.

William Heath Vlieland

William Heath Vlieland was a son of Jerome Nicholas Vlieland and Sarah Heath .
He was born on september 9, 1837 Norwich Norfolk UK.
He died as William Vieland Apr-may-June 1892 age 53, Reg Norwich, County Norfolk. Volume 4b page 109.
He married Emily Hannah Priaulx in 1861.






By 1862 Emily and William jointly ran a boys school.
There are lots of adverts in newspaper where William advertises his schools.
he also refers to his father as professor of languages in those ads.

William owned a prayerbook given to him on a visit to his uncle "the bishop of London"
And soon after 1881 he recorded his family births,marriages and deaths.
Entered in the rear cover it says
"my father Jerome Nicholas Vlieland born 27 june 1796"
William and Emily had issue in 1893 one daughter Florence Adele Vlieland had this book when she married from her cousins house Frances Elisabeth Chesterman ( Charles James Vlielands eldest sister)
William and Emily had more children All born at Hygeia house.

Edith Constance Blanche Vlieland born Hygeia House Prestbury Cheltenham 8th Jube 1864 Her godfather William Heath Vlieland,Emily Hannah Hanis ,Emily Hannah Thomas.
She married in Mutford Norfolk 1890.
Florence Adéle Vlieland born Hygeia House Prestbury Cheltenham 14th May 1866.Her godfather was John Parker,Marie Heath Parker,Emily Charlotte .
William Henry Blomfield Jansen de Vlieland born Hygeia House Prestbury Cheltenham 0n 20th Oct 1868.
The middle name Heath comes from the Heath family .They have a coat of arm with a Heath Cock.The church just outside Hemblington near Hemblington Hall where they lived is full of Heaths , both buried and memorials to them .

Herbert Bloomfield Vlieland wrote down his memories.
"my father was an Episcopal minister
Our family was originally Dutch,but the last war between Holland and French,in a naval battle,my great grandfather,an admiral had his ship sunk under him and was shot swimming to another ship.
His son was captain and taken prisoner".
So far his story.
Herbert Bloomfield was born 25-11-1862 te Stalisfield Kent and died 05-07-1958 at South Gate ,Los Angeles,Calefornia,
He was the son of Jerome Nicholas the younger


Herbert was named after his uncle Charles James Bloomfield.
He married on the 22-09-1886 Waunakee USA to Jenny Amelia Ford.
And the second time to Blanche Pearle (TAPLEY) LONGLEY. They married in 1946 in South Gate.
Jenny Ford was born in Vienna Danc
She died 29 aug 1943 South Gate C.A.
Her father was Laurence A Ford,born 10 oct 1833 Dunfermline Fife Scotland and her mother was Amelia Henderson born 22 Oct 1837 Lowell Mdsx UK
Herbert and Jenny had six children,

Herbert's father was the Rev. Jerome Nicholas Vlieland, his mother Frances Elizabeth Samworth
He was born in St. Mary's Stalisfield, England. 
His mother died when he was very young, and his father remarried to Sarah Ann Johnson. 
His father died when he was 12 then he was sent to a boarding school. 
After school he apprenticed with a ferm putting up the first electric wires in Scotland, they just attached them house to house. 
Before he finished his apprenticeship he developed pneumonis and recooperated at his brothers house, who was a doctor. 
He then sailed to America, settling in Wisconsin. 
There he met his future wife, they had 7 children. 
They had an emporium, later they moved north to River Falls where he had greenhouses and ran a nursery. 
After his son moved to California, they followed him out there the following year. 
His house and gardens were dotted with fish ponds and was a beautiful place to see. His wife Jennie Amelia Ford died in 1943, later he remarried and lived a long life.


H.B. Vlieland starts this week to build an addition on his store building. The room he now has is too small for his increasing bussiness
