And we already know that is a familiar name.
He is the son of Lawrence Candler and Anna Maria Vlieland
In the 1881 census Thomas Edward Candler a mining engineer is at home in East Lodge, Crook And Billy Row with his Dad Lawrence Candler a colliery agent, his Mum Anna (nee Vlieland) and his grandma Sarah Vlieland

he set some charcoal alight and then lay down in the bath. When discovered some time later was dead, having been suffocated by the fumes of the burning charcoal. The coroner read the following letter which the deceased man had left: For the Coroner. Sir.—Kindly Inform the jury that as my health is completely broken down with 19 years residence In India. China, and Afrlca. and I have more business worries than my head will stand, my present action is necessary T. E.CANDLER The jury returned verdict of '* suicide." offering no opinion to the state of the deceased's mind.
