The thimble case only had a brass thimble in it by the time it came to me but I think it dates from about 1850 so might have been Alice Vlieland's or her mothers.
It looks very much like this one
English circa 1850 octagon shaped mother-of-pearl thimble holder constructed from a wooden base with slabs of mother-of-pearl applied and two front pieces of abalone. Push button closure and lined within with original blue velvet, inside edges lined with bone. (Thimble not included) Height is 1 3/8” x 1 1/8” wide
